McCullough's Bridge in Florence

Finished in April 10, 1936. With it's Gothic arch railings, sculptured Art Deco obelisks and approach pylons it still is a beautiful structure. The span between the four obelisk structures can be lifted for big ships either from one side or both sides.
It replaced the ferry traffic over the river and the ferry landing structures to the left of the bridge slowly fell apart. Only many of the poles that once carried the piers are still visible, as here in the picture. On the other side of the river, the so called Glenada Side, there had been actually a real wooden street on poles in the river, allowing car traffic from and to warehouses right there.

Yesterday I stood on the bridge, looking East.
My first Blip entry was this bridge too....
