An unexpected guest

Today was pleasant in Edinburgh, so I mowed the lawn in the morning. We put grass and shredded paper in a small bin to rot and I was surprised to see several small bees flying out of a hole in one corner. It appears we have a colony in the garden. I put the lid back on and will leave them undisturbed; it's exciting to get them. I put the grass in our main compost bin, and disturbed a field mouse that seems to have a nest there. No stirring of the heap now either. We have carpet on top of the rotting vegetable debris and shreddings, and we often have frogs in there too. The blip is of a slightly sleepy soul I saw as I moved the carpet.
