Motorcycle diaries - day2: Hampi

Continued from here

tired of the ride yesterday, we woke up late today, hence missing the sunrise...but we had bigger plans for the day...most of the things to see in Hampi are across the river from where we're putting up...so we decided to take our bikes on the other side, visit the places and then later in the day, come back and explore this side of the river...now the river crossing is going to be one of the most novel experiences...since the road is too far away, we decided to take the bikes across the river on a boat...now these are not just any ordinary boats...these are in fact, oversized baskets that people use to commute across the river...it seems time couldn't destroy some of the age-old practices in this timeless city...we loaded our bikes - two at a time on these baskets and 'rode' it across the stream...the basket was rocking and we were not sure what we would do in case it turns upside down...I dont think it mattered whether ones knows swimming or not...my bike definitely doesn't know swimming - at least not good enough to take me to safety, in case of an emergency...thankfully, after about half an hour or so, all were parked safely on the other side of the river...

the guide we hired took us through some selected temples, ruins and remains of palaces...he kept telling us the history behind each stone and painting on the walls - some were facts, some legends and some, mythological stories

the man pictured here is a sadhu - a musical one...he was playing a really nice tune on his flute...one of our fellow riders recorded it on his phone...I need to get it from him and upload it some day
