Reed-mace Beds

These are some of the extensive beds of reed-mace (Typha latifolia) at Birnie Loch. Some people erroneously call these 'bulrushes ' but they are not related to the rushes and the true 'bulrush' (Scirpus (or Schoenoplectus) lacustris) is a totally different plant of boggy moorland.
Rant over - I'm a die-hard botanist who hasn't yet given up the fight.

I liked the way the sunshine was catching last year's seed-heads.
I was lucky with the weather because by teatime there was heavy thundery rain.
