Sea Sandwort - Honkenya peploides

Sea Sandwort (Honkenya peploides) is a common shore plant on some local beaches.

It grows in sheltered sandy areas not far above the strand line. It hugs the ground and forms a dense mat of fleshy leaves at most just two or three inches high. This time of year there are many flowers but they are not readily visible as the white petals are very small.
