Frailty, exuberance and survival

I posted a blip of this wee fellow a few days ago; through apparently frail he is surviving well; seems exuberantly keen on meal-worms. He has a loud and piercing cheep - which he uses primarily to DEMAND food. He is being looked after by Holly Skeet (a talented vet nurse) who is very devoted to his care. Now he lives in a creche with two other abandoned fledgelings - a pair of fluffy chaffinches - who are about three times his size. The chaffinches are younger, but much stronger. Nevertheless they seem to believe this wee chap is their parent!

In other good news; the Springer Spaniel who I showed being transfused with blood about 10 days ago or so is now doing really well. He had a bumpy few days, seemed on the brink of death, was given a second transfusion (rather in hope than expectation that he might survive) but now seems to have turned the corner. The platelet count has recovered into the normal range now, which is fantastic. Alongside this all bleeding has ceased and the anaemia has improved immensely too. Unfortunately his drug therapy is causing some troublesome side-effects but these should be manageable. With luck we will be able to start reducing the use of these drugs fairly soon.
