Youth can do it-project in Burj el Barajneh camp

This camp is in the southern suburb of Beirut. It was established in 1948.  The camp suffered heavily throughout the Lebanese civil war. Refugees’ property was badly damaged and nearly a quarter of the camp‘s population was displaced. It is the most overpopulated camp around Beirut and living conditions are extremely poor. The camp also has narrow roads, an old sewage system, and is regularly flooded during winter.

The refugees have a burning desire and demand to return to their homeland.  On the 15th of May it is 66 years of the Nakba, the disaster/catastrophe.  Since that day Israel has become more and more militarized and the Palestinians more and more suppressed, increasingly despondent and impoverished with less and less land.

Hanin and her friends in the youth organisation Wajeh are interviewing an elderly. He was 7 years old when they had to flee after an heavy siege.  The interview will be used at the Nakba Day, 14th of May.
