But, then again . . . . .

Golliwog

Sis and I met with the ministers to discuss the order of service for the funeral; we kicked around some more ideas and realised that if we use CDs for the music, they would be played a very competent, but bored, organist. The Percy Grainger music, in particular, is a little challenging so we decided to give him something worthwhile to do.

We wondered whether it is appropriate to have the picture of TOL eating a "99" (the blip from June the 3rd) on the programme; there were so many positive comments about it that we decided to go ahead, it will be on the back page; we have also decided that the front should have a portrait of TOL taken when she was about twenty, and very handsome she looks too.

The document has now been completed and emailed to the funeral director.

The blip is of one of the politically incorrect posters from the '50s on display at The Lodge, it was taken at nearly midnight with poor lighting and no flash so it's not of the best technical quality. TOL was upset that the golliwog had developed such a bad reputation in recent years, she had had one as a child and it was her favourite toy; amongst her peers, in those innocent days, no one ever connected the toy with any racial stereotype; other toys she would have had were rag dolls that were similar in all respects - except for their colour.
