Wetlands Walk

Have a walk planned with friends to Newport Wetlands this morning. Not a promising start to the day - raining, cloudy.... Nevertheless we get out the waterproofs and brave the elements.

As we drive to Newport the skies are lifting over the coast, and by the time we arrive it's relatively clear - there's even blue sky. Keep the waterproofs on and meet up at the Wetlands RSPB centre for the walk. About a dozen or so, enough for a good natter but not too many to be unmanageable.

Blustery at times but stays dry, shower clouds passing through and beautiful blue skies over the reed beds. Don't get much bird watching in, mostly talking to new "friends", only know a few of the group.

We wend our way around the reed beds and head out of the reserve towards Goldcliff, to the Farmers Arms. Haven't been here before and it's a lovely surprise. A carvery lunch with the group, a table has been reserved for us and the food is excellent. Warm welcome and no delays with getting food - the two hour walk has sharpened my appetite.

Ready for a doze after lunch, but I drop K off at home and call in to see Dad for an hour or so. By the time I get home I'm ready for bed.....
