If you can't beat them...

Rannerdale (Near Crummock)

Clickychick has been wanting to take some Bluebell shots for awhile, and Rannerdale is well known locally for its Bluebells. We decided to dedicate the afternoon (one of the few in the near future we will be able to spare) to a trip over to see them. We used the route over Newlands pass a road I haven't driven for some years. There are plenty of blip opportunities which we have had to leave for another day.

Before we could continue we had to stop in Buttermere for an ice cream made on the farm from their Ayrshire cows. Delicious! Then we continued to the car park we expected to use -full. As there was no where to stop we continued on towards Lorton. I saw a car park and it had a space so we nipped in. Right come on we will go and see the Bluebells. What its miles away! Fortunately as I was trying to explain to CC how far it was we bumped into friends who assured her it was no further than it would have been from the previous car park.

I knew what to expect but CC had no idea, so as we rounded the shoulder of the hill I heard "Oh! WOW!" As you can see from my pic above there are one or two Bluebells on that fell side. To give you an idea of scale we were about half way through the Bluebells when I took this shot and they continue up the hill and down to the stream in the bottom of the valley. Also to help with scale if you look about half way up the shot on the left near the thirds line are two people.

We spent a glorious afternoon of warm sunny weather taking shots of Bluebells from all angles close and far away. I chose this as it gives and impression of the sheer splendour of then valley and flowers.
