Steelwork

Today the people who had manufactured the steelwork for the frame of our rebuilt conservatory, arrived to erect the framework. The concrete had been down nearly a fortnight and was expected to be fully hardened. The first column was placed very carefully in position, ready for the holes to be drilled into the concrete to fix it. However, when the first hole was drilled, after two inches of hard concrete the drill met little resistance even though the concrete is more than 600mm deep. The concrete below the surface had not hardened! This caused consternation all around, with various options for dealing with this being discussed. The fabricators erected one section, attaching it loosely in the correct position, before they left; they now need to sort the problem out with our builder. Today’s picture is of this first section before it as properly located with the people who were erecting it, in the picture.
