My day

Peace Park Bathurst

This is my lunch spot today. Mr 59 brought along a picnic and we went down to Peace Park to enjoy sandwiches, fruit and a cuppa.

This park is along side the Macquarie River which to people from other countries would perhaps qualify as a stream. The river begins a few kilometres from Bathurst and meanders along for 626 kilometres before joining the Barwon River way up north. This river continues up to Queensland where it joins the Darling River which flows west then south to join the Murray which empties into the ocean near Adelaide. This is one of the longest river systems in the world and drains 1/7 of the Australian land mass. Sometimes the river system dries up completely so that there is no water at all. This is a very sad situation as the rivers are the life blood of the towns scattered out in the central parts of the country, providing domestic, stock and irrigation water. When it is dry water needs to be carted in tankers.
