Larnach Castle

I thought it was a lovely coincidence that on the date of my 100th Blip we planned to do such exciting things.
We started out today with breakfast in the hotel, then moved on to a tour of the Cadbury factory. Unfortunately they don't actually make chocolate in the weekends so we didn't get to see any machinery. We did get to watch a tonne of liquid chocolate being poured into a container the size of a skip. That was pretty spectacular. And then there was the free samples. Yum!
Straight after the factory tour we drove out onto the peninsula to find Lanarch Castle. The drive was stunning. Perfect weather to drive around the bays. Larnach Castle is the only castle in New Zealand (I think) and was built by a rich Australian in 1871. It is now owned by a family who have restored it to its former glory after another owner 'let it go'. It was a great tour and I even braved going up a skinny tower staircase to end up on the top of the turrets you can see in this photo.
After the castle, we kept driving out on the peninsula to find the Yellow Eyed Penguin and Albatross colonies. We got there eventually only to find that if we wanted to actually see them we had to take expensive and long guided tours. We were already exhausted and it was pushing 2pm with no lunch so we decided it was a nice drive and that was enough for us.
Back into town and we had fish and chips for lunch on St Kilda beach, then a walk through the centre of town and around Otago University. We had planned on dinner in a restaurant and a movie tonight but we are both completely shattered and it will now be the closest takeaways to the hotel then tv in bed for us.
Last day tomorrow and we are heading home. I think we've crammed in enough though!
