But, then again . . . . .

Penicuik Road.

This is the view of the village from south side of the chapel, while in the background is the end of the Pentland Hills. We used to have three churches in the village but, as it filled up with non-believers, we were reduced to two: the Church of Scotland Kirk in the centre of the picture and the Episcopalian Chapel.

The houses on the near side of the Penicuik Road have a view across the tree-tops of Roslin Glen to the Muirfoot Hills twenty miles to the south but, first, they have to put up with the tree nursery on the sloping field in the foreground. The nursery belongs to Ronnie Brown who also has a walled garden on the edge of Killburn woods and another with a trade outlet at Dobbie's Garden Centre just outside Dalkeith. The slope of his field is where the kids trespass to go sledging when it snows, though they don't really need the snow; the grass works just fine.
