Around Arundel

Son Paul decided that he wanted to go to Arundel and have a general walk round as it was his birthday today. The weather was glorious, and we had a picnic by the river before heading off up to the top of the hill to see the Roman Catholic cathedral. We saw the houses in the first photo on the way up there. The cathedral was built in the late 1800's, but is styled to look much older - the second photo shows a view inside. We then came back down the hill and stopped at the King's Arm pub for a drink. It was nice as there was a shady area outside to sit in. The museum back down by the river was next - we had three free entry cards from a friend with a lot of contacts in Arundel. It was a small, but interesting museum and the photo of Stuart and Paul is taken in there. The fourth photo is of a drinking fountain displayed in there which was in a school playground in Arundel until 1976! It has a metal cup on a chain to drink from.

We then had a further walk along the river in both directions (not too far as I was pretty tired, and we also had to get back to the car because the parking ticket was running out). Then home for birthday cake - the gluten free carrot cake I made was really delicious I have to say! :-) Paul then decided that he would like to go to Pizza Express for a meal, so we ended up in Worthing (I was so exhausted I had a job to walk to the restaurant!) but it was worth it because the meal was very nice indeed :-)

Yesterday seemed like a miracle as Paul has had low energy levels for years due to ME and the amount he did yesterday around Arundel (he worked out we'd walked about four miles and he hardly sat down, whereas I had to keep finding seats!) and then to still want to go out again for a meal would never have happened before this gluten free diet.
