A Pendle Witch

Roughlee is a village near Burnley and famous for its connections with the Pendle Witches, one of whom - Alice Nutter - is immortalised by this statue in the village.
She allegedly lived at Roughlee Old Hall. She was found guilty of causing death by witchcraft and in 1612 she was taken to Lancaster Castle for sentencing and subsequent hanging.
A great miscarriage of English justice.
Some more details of the statue here.
