Another Bearded Iris

Here’s another Iris germanica from the garden, this time, a relatively contemporary hybrid (1990) from Schreiner. This is called “Night Ruler,” known for its dark ruffling. The introduction won the Award of Merit in 1994. It opens nearly black, then, starts to fade to deep purple within a day or two. This photo is taken in today's bright sunlight, but, on a cloudy day, you would again swear that it is velvety black.
