MORE iris!

More iris.....but a different member of the clan today. This is a selection of the North American native, Iris versicolor or blue flag iris. It is a flat flower which makes it suitable for hummingbirds as well as butterflies. This iris forms dense colonies in damp sites. In our garden, the patches have grown to four or five feet across. Unlike the Iris pseudocorus, which is rampantly invasive in our region, this is well behaved, though, it IS time to lift and divide soon. Beware, the rhizomes of this pretty flower are poisonous.
