Schützenbäck

The first shop my daughter Kate encountered when she visited in October last year -we quickly picked up some bread & rolls on the way from the airport.

It's a rather modern bakery & cafe in Erkheim. Name ties up with Sundays Blip although I don't know which version of the word "Schützen" is meant here. It could be "Riflemen" or "Sagittarius" but the word can also be used as "Protection". I suspect the astrological version is meant.

The dogs & I had had a very warm walk on fields arouund neighbouring Schlegelsberg. Not a cloud to be seen. Flash was not overly impressed as it is directly over the flightpath in to Memmingen airport. While we only saw 3 planes in 90 minutes, one flew over exactly as we got out of the car and that set the tone for the rest of the walk. He kept hiding in tall grass or wheat fields.

We then popped in to Erkheim to cool off in the stream, Flash only doing a quick dash for a drink before getting back in the security of the car. Then to the shops to buy a honey transport box so that I can send Kate or rather daughter Charlotte some replacement honey. On the way home noted the mass of cars parked at the local swimming lakes - the season has opened!

This evening I made a very tasty dish: baked chicken breast with cheese and walnuts and accompanied by spelt & tomato risotto. I wonder how many have eaten spelt or even know what it is. I hadn't eaten it and only knew of it as a type of grain. Tasted very good but risotto is not really the right word as it wasn't creamy. The grain had been soaked overnight. Always think of RedFlash when dealing with grain! Dinkel is thought to be healthy but it isn't gluten free. Could possibly help those with a wheat allergy. Anyway the dish was good, the tastes subtle and the textures good. As the oven was on and had lots of apples, quickly baked an apple pie for good measure.

Without the chicken, a meal for Kate who is vegetarian. So quite a baking day from the weather until dinner.
