A new place for breakfast

B&W Slightly grungy version. Let me know if you have a preference.

We had pretty much exhausted venues in Hitchin to get a cooked breakfast on a Saturday morning but one of those places, The Triangle cafe was recently taken over by two enterprising young lads, Tom and Ben and relaunched as The Groundworks. The Triangle Cafe was nice, in the same way that the girl next door was nice, but not exciting.

The Groundworks is a much more exciting place; in terms of its decor, its menu and the bright young people who work there. There are some very nice touches that demonstrate that the lads have done there homework, like the tea which comes to the table in an individual teapot with the cup on top and the milk in a miniature milk bottle placed inside the cup. But its not just style over substance, which is so often the case. No, the tea was made with real tea leaves in an infuser, not the lone cheap teabag that so many places deem fit to offer. I liked that.

The breakfast itself was good. Good, but not remarkable, so they perhaps need to do something there just to raise the bar a notch, but they are well on the way to having a great little cafe. Next thing for me is to try lunch. Breakfast is easy to get right in comparison. This will really show how well the boys are going to do.

As Arnie said in Terminator, 'I'll be back'.
