Tip of the iceberg

I couldn't let the collections assignment go without getting some records in there. Given that there was no way I could get a good picture incorporating all of the 500-1000 discs kicking about the house I just went for a select few. Likewise I'll have to be selective about what I type as this could easily run into an essay.

Suffice to say my favourite music is usually electronic, particularly good underground stuff in the style of the early Chicago house or Detroit techno tracks. Not that I don't like other forms of music as my tastes are fairly eclectic, but good electronic dance music would always come out as my favourite genre. Unfortunately very little of the stuff I like gets airplay anywhere so unless you were into frequenting the sort of clubs I went to it's unlikely you'd have heard much of it.

It also used to be very difficult to track down with only specialist shops stocking it which meant that a lot of the time I used to get my music mail order from a shop called Depth charge in York. Not the ideal scenario really, so when a friend came to me with the idea of opening a shop it seemed like the natural thing to do. We wrote a business plan (with some serious help from the blipmeister himself, cheers Joe) and approached the Prince's Trust for money to open the shop. We got our funding and opened up in 1994 .The business only lasted until 1996 due to the specialist nature of what we sold but it was a fantastic experience at the time.

I also used to DJ a fair bit at the time so having the shop was perfect for that as it meant we always had access to the latest tunes. When Maddy came along I knocked the Jingo on the head as there wasn't really any money in it and it wasn't the most practical thing to do with a young baby in the house. If I'm honest I do miss having access to decks as it was quite a good way to unwind. They are something I might have to look into getting again.
