Coot

More birds from the Water of Leith! Today's selection is the coot (Fulica atra) with its huge comical feet and "bald" forehead. It was getting very bold, fighting off mallards and tufted ducks for seeds.

The moorhen was back, but shy; as was the heron. I took a series of shots of him flapping off at my approach. I also got some much beter shots of the mergansers (from a couple of days ago) and a Little Grebe.

Off the water, there was my pal the robin (more extreme close-ups) fieldfares, redwings and a charm of goldfinches. Saw a couple of wrens, but wasn't quick enough with the camera.

EDITED TO ADD: I have put some other shots from the last couple of days into a Winter Birds blipfolio.
