Between fen and mountains

Gentians

We walked up to Marialles today. It was a 600 metre climb up to 1700 metres but at this point the scenery changes from mid to high mountain and the flora becomes more interesting. The snow had mostly disappeared and the gentians were out. We walked back leisurely and stooped for tea, biscuits and cherries at a friend's house. They have a glut at the moment in their cherry orchard so we each came away with large bags full. Cherry pie, cherry crumble, duck with cherry sauce, cherry clafoutis and cherry couli and ice cream are all on the cards!
