I can't understand how the Romans designed and built a fantastic wonder like this 2000 years ago, and now are designing Fiat Doblo vans. What went wrong?

This was just astonishing to see, and that is from someone who dreaded school trips to the Roman wall , growing up in the NE. South Shields and Housesteads must have been an awful posting for the Romans, if they knew their friends were here!
