Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Ilkley Literature Festival is traditionally a herald of the autumn season. This year it is doing a few summer events, some for Le Tour, an interesting Poetry Festival/Curry Festival combo in late June and tonight Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie came to Ilkley.

I read a fair few books but Half a Yellow Sun her second published novel still stays with me. Tonight she talked about story telling, the danger of the single story, race, class, being black, Nigeria, America, Britain and feminism. She came across as a gifted, thoughtful and engaging woman.

After her reading from her latest novel Americana I'll buy it and hear her Nigerian lilt as the voice that narrates it.
