Sgwarnog: In the Field

We made the most of a nice day and headed to the beach at St. Bees, almost two years to the day since we were last here.

St. Bees has fine pebbles of different hues, from balls of Ailsa Craig granite to slabs of old red sandstone. 9yo, 6yo and had fun building pebble towers, and these are our first efforts. We'd left quite a set of monuments by the end of the day.

Where the cliffs had slumped, a rich carpet of pioneer plants provided an ideal spot for Common Blue butterflies, including this one.

It looks like the rain won't join us for another day, so another dose of fresh air seems likely tomorrow.
