Muttley's Musings

Heavy Metal Thunder

As it was a nice weather forecast (for once) I took myself off down to Silverstone for the day to watch the British GT Championship, which was holding the Silverstone 500 3 hour race. I enjoy sportscar racing more than f1, but this was actually the first time I've managed to get along to a British GT race meeting. It was a pretty impressive grid of about 36 cars including numerous Aston Martin Vantages, Porsche 911's, Ginetta's, BMW Z4's, an Audi R8, and a new Bentley Continental GT.

The number 4 Aston Martin won quite comfortably from the no 1 Beechdean Aston Martin, but the battle for 3rd was quite intense between the new Bentley Continental GT and the Ecuri Ecosse BMW Z4, and the final 20 minutes racing after the final pitstop was pretty thrilling with the Bentley hunting down the BMW, each car having it's strengths in different parts of the circuit, but in the closing moments, the Bentley battled past, with the aid of a nudge, which spun the BMW. Ultimately this was to come back to haunt the Bentley which was given a 30 second post race penalty for causing avoidable contact, which relegated the Bentley back to 4th place.

This is a picture of the start of the race with all of the cars racing down to the first corner, Copse. Look Large for all of the glory, power and heat haze as the field thundered towards me.

For those interested the photos from my photo shoot in a recording studio are now on Flickr

I'll catch up with comments tomorrow.
