Flora

For once, I wasn't looking for birds or fungi but for Orchids. We went for a trip to a superb site where there are orchids a plenty. I thought it might be a bit early, but given everything is ahead of itself this Spring, I thought it was worth a go. We weren't disappointed: there were lots of them, as well as lots of other Spring Flora - several varieties, which I think were Northern and Southern Marsh Orchid, and Common Spotted Orchid (need to check these). This one is a Pyramidal Orchid, not yet in full flower.
We had hoped we might see a few butterflies as it warmed up in the afternoon but a brief glimpse of a Blue and one or two Green Veined Whites. We'll be back in a few weeks - hopefully on a sunny day when there will be plenty of butterflies around.
Fungi Survey Day tomorrow. The weather looks very unpromising, so it may be a short day out.
