Freedom and persistence

Several years ago, probably longer (!) my mother gave me this climbing hydrangea in a big pot. But somehow, we just didn't have the right place for it, so it stayed in its pot.
But a shrub growing near the corner of the house had to be removed a couple of years ago, and left a big gap. Wondering if the pot bound hydrangea would survive, I planted it out, making sure it had plenty of water through its first summer of freedom.
As you see, it is now thriving, climbing, layering and flowering!
