Dralion - Cirque du Soleil

Last Christmas, my daughter Abi, bought me tickets to see Dralion, the Cirque du Soleil production. So this afternoon, we headed off to the O2 Arena in London. We went down early and had dinner in Frankie & Benny’s before the show.

Dralion combines the 3000 year-old tradition of Chinese acrobatic arts with the disciplined approach of Cirque du Soleil. It draws its inspiration from Eastern philosophy and its quest for harmony between humans and nature. The name Dralion dervives its name from the dragon, symbolizing the East, and the lion, symbolizing the West.

In Dralion, the four elements that govern the natural order take on a human form. Each element is represented by its own evocative colour: air is blue; water is green; fire is red and earth is ochre. In the world of Dralion, cultures blend, man and nature are one, and balance is achieved.

The acts included: Ariel Hoop, Ariel Pas de Deux, Bamboo Poles, Crossed Wheel, Diabolo, Dralions, Hoop Diving, Juggling, Medusa, Skipping Ropes, Trampoline and Single Handbalancing.

The photo captures the single handbalancing act. The artist balances on canes of varous heights whilst executing a series of astounding moves and poses. This act must require enormous strength, incredible control and total flexibility.

It was a fabulous show and a lovely evening spent with my daughter.
