Life though my lens

A Magical Glenfinnan

After getting bitten alive by midges at our last camping spot we headed to Glenfinnan. We found a path running up behind the visitor centre where we got a nice view of the Glenfinnan Viaduct and Loch Shiel. The Glenfinnan Viaduct is the sight of filming for the second Harry Potter Film - The Chamber of Secrets where Harry and Ron flew their magical car to catch up with their missed train. It was obvious why they choose this particular bridge in filming as if really was spectacular and even something a bit magical about it. We then headed across to the Glenfinnan Monument, which was erected in 1815 to mark the place where Prince Charles Edward Stuart ("Bonnie Prince Charlie") raised his standard, at the beginning of the 1745 Jacobite Rising.

After trailing around the visitor centre we took a short walk around the Glenfinnan Estate where red deer were abundant and where this photo was able to be taken. We ended our Glenfinnan experience at the small, quaint Glenfinnan station, which looked as if it had not changed since it was built in the late 1800's.

We then decided to head across to Aviemore to the Old Bridge Inn where we were treated to live folk music and a whole bar full of speciality ales.
