Japanese Snowbell

Styrax japonicus is one of my favorite small trees. The long dangling buds give way to these pretty waxy flowers which, in turn, will form long greenish teardrop fruit which last well into autumn. There is a soft fragrance to the dainty flowers as well.

We have several forms in the garden, including 'Pink Chimes' which has pink flowers and 'Carillon' which is a weeping variety. Alas, my very fragrant S. obassia died suddenly a few years ago.
