To the end of the road

We started the day with boiled eggs from the hens at the top of the drive. Delicious, lovely great big, deep yellow yolks , very tasty.
We headed across the hills to Glen Cannich. Stopping for a coffee and cake at the Bog Cotton Café first.
We drove up the steep road out of Cannich and on into the Glen, following the fast flowing river as we went. The road is MUCH quieter than the one to Glen Affric so there was plenty of opportunity to stop and take photos of the stunning scenery. It was a bright and sunny day and we watched an eagle hover over the mountain tops which still had a sprinkle of snow at their peaks.

Several red deer where feeding at ground level , lots of wildflowers were in bloom including orchids, sundew and the star of the wood. Plenty of old scots pine to admire too.

At the end of the road is an impressive hydro dam at the 'foot of Loch Mullardoch. The largest dam in Scotland. It's incredible to see the huge mass of concrete holding back vast amounts of water.

I sat on a rock at the top of the road while Mike parked the car. It was great to sit in the sun and take in the views listening to the bird song. I was pleased the tractor and the boats were there to give scale and more interest. A ferry runs from here to reach further into the glen for those who want to bag a few Munros :)

On the way back we stopped at the Cnoc Hotel in Struy. We sat outside and shared scampi and battered king prawns, finishing with a cup of tea.

Back to the farmhouse for Badger Watch and we were treated to a surprise visit of four badgers charging across the driveway. So coats on and up to the road to see if we could see them in the neighbours garden. They were feeding under the bird feeders, light was fading fast and the midges were out in force but we stayed long enough to see the large male cross the path in front of us, magical.
