Ominous clouds . . . . .

. . . . . over Lenin Square in Yuzhno Sakhalinsk. It didn't take me long to get back to the hotel, which is on the far right, behind the red roof. I was sure we were in for a thunderstorm and it sure felt like it, but it came to nothing.

I visited the Sakhalin Museum midday, enjoying seeing the very early aboriginal exhibits and the period costumes, but not the exhibits of prisons and torture. Ugh. I did read Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago a long time ago and it made an indelible impression on me.

I am so looking forward to getting on the ship tomorrow! It's the Spirit of Enderby, and the expedition is set up by Heritage Expeditions - Sea of Okhostk.
