Pillbox Swallow

As I walked along the seawall at Bradwell today I noticed a pair of swallows flying very low, lower than the top of the wall.

I scrambled down to the beach and could see that the birds were flying around and in and out of a pillbox. I poked my camera through one of the small openings but couldn't locate a nest.

I sat down and waited and watched. I didn't manage to get a decent shot of a swallow in flight but snapped the above when one, I think the male, settled briefly on a nearby post. The wings of the insect in its beak are still moving. The pair definitely have young.

I was delighted when swallows and labyrinth spiders featured in Springwatch this evening. :)
