Polka dot philosophy

The Wellington City Gallery is currently hosting an exhibition of the work of the avant-garde Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

The exhibition is amazing and I recommend it highly. However, one of the most astonishing sights is the exterior of the gallery itself all decked out in polka dots: one of Kusama's obsessions.

I just love the contrast between the playful polka dots and the gravitas of the building's architecture. Apparently the artist designed the dots and directed their layout on the building.

There's a good review of the exhibition by Jazial Crossley.
