My film at Wokingham Theatre

I saw my film on the big screen last night at Wokingham Theatre. It seemed to go down well!

The Making of Mary Shelley Film
"We want a 3 minute film to open a stage play called Mary Shelley" was the challenge set to the Reading Film and Video Makers. The opening would have been "difficult" to perform live on stage, as you will see.

The Brief - 1795, autumn, a cloaked figure, evening.
More used to editing wedding or family holiday films for customers, this was indeed a challenge! A scene which looked like 1795? A recce took me to Eton Bridge, where with careful close-ups, modern buildings could be kept out of shot. The airplane trails overhead were another worry! However the biggest problem would be to ensure that no humans appeared in the filming as their clothing would ruin the illusion of being set in the 18th century. A location just near Windsor Castle proved ideal for a cobbled street scene to work alongside footage from a recent trip to Bruges. Leaves in the churchyard would suggest an autumnal feel. There was just one other tiny challenge, but that would be giving too much away!
I decided to film during the day, then apply colour correction in editing. In order to avoid the crowds, myself and fellow film club members and extras (invaluable to hold back cyclists and pedestrians) met on Eton Bridge at 08.30 on a chilly Sunday morning to capture our footage.

All will be revealed.

The film is 3 minutes. In the theatre version, no text was used, as it all became apparent who the lady in the film was, as the play started. There is a 5 second delay Mary Shelley Film made by me
