World record holder

Southend pier;
Work started in 1829
Longest pier in the world (1.34 miles long), however, much, much longer when you are walking it
Has its own railway
Burned down 4 times
In WWII was renamed HMS Leigh
We walked the pier today, something we used to do when the children were little, and it was just as windy as we remembered. Sadly, the greasy spoon of a cafe we used to frequent seeking solace from the wind seems to have gone, perhaps with one of the numerous fires, but is now replaced with an impressive cafe/theatre/gallery.
Happy memories!
