ART

A lovely 24 hours of Art! Last night we saw the opening of “Modernism in the Pacific Northwest: the Mythic and the Mystical” at the Seattle Art Museum -a fabulous comprehensive new look at these painters (mainly Tobey, Graves, Callahan and Anderson) of the 30s and 40s formerly labeled the “NW school” but now clearly showing the influence of not only the grey wet NW, but the people here (Asian and Pacific Rim, and the Native cultures) as well as the times, pre war and war. (Plus they have GREAT food at these openings :-) )

Tai Chi /Qigong all morning (burning thighs) - that’s another art, and we were blessed with a most wonderful Chinese visitor to the class who demonstrated a fabulous set. I needed some calm this week...

Great catch up lunch out with my friend and fellow blipper, Mikeday, and a visit to the Henry Gallery at the UW to see the graduating UW Masters Students show (we just missed the others we wanted to see, alas). The blip is of our favorite work in this show, an oil by Canadian Abraham Murley, called “Charlie’s Walk”. We painters are both hopelessly addicted to the "traditional" paintings and loved this --it includes bits of paper collage.

Tickets to a lecture tonight about Art Deco in Japan (the current stunning show at the Asian Seattle Art Museum) -might not happen…

This painting is definitely one of a kind Unique and qualities for the weekly blip challenge I think.
