Donkeytrousers!

Visited the Ile de Ré, which was picturesque and had a real charm (but, you couldn't help thinking, might be just a teensy bit up itself). Where, strange but true, you can have a ride on one of the ânes en culottes ... or donkeys in trousers.

Apparently, it was the local tradition to furnish their beasts of burden with colourful strides - as a protection against mosquito bites. I have to say, it sounds suspiciously like an excuse for dressing animals up whimsically.
