Alien oak

A busy and occasionally stressful day. Into Peterborough with Ben in the morning to try and find items to make fancy dress costumes for a Midsummer Night's Dream party we're hosting on Saturday. While we were out Chris had his first driving lesson for four years, which went far better than he'd expected.

Arrived home to find Chris had finally got confirmation of some work, but that it was more complicated than we'd expected and the fieldwork needed to be done by the end of June, leaving very little time for preparation and planning. A couple of hours were spent trying to think how we could fit this into an already busy schedule - though on the up-side, I might get a weekend away out of it!

In the late afternoon  Pete, Chris and I went to survey a nearby site and found this very strange oak - not a native British species and I'm still rather unsure of its precise identity. Alex should have joined us but has severe tonsillitis, and is confined to bed with a high fever. We're just hoping he recovers by Saturday!
