Eating a big slice of ....

bumble humble pie.

Apparantly, this expression comes from umble pie, umbles being the old English name for the innards of the animal, in particular deer, and considered to be inferior fayre for poor folks.

Anyway, I have not been forced to eat humble pie but did feel humbled the other day and couldn't think of any other way to represent it than this.

What was it that made you feel this way I hear you ask?

Waits patiently.

Funny you should ask. I was at the gym, on the treadmill overlooking the car park. Several cars arrived and a number of mentally handicapped people and their carers got out and made their way to the entrance. Two things struck me:

(1) How lucky I am to have the freedom to do what I want when I want without being reliant on anyone else. Their disability is not a barrier to them living life to the fullest extent possible, so I need to do the same. If for no other reason than the simple fact that I can do it, this justified my decision to attempt the half marathon in October

(2) How admirable is the work of these carers. They were for the most part young people, typically younger than the people they were looking after but you could see how much they enjoyed what they were doing.

Enough of being serious. I read the other day that there is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections (hopefully not on the same individual, but who knows) with absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

And finally, a funny video
