Crab Spider

Last year we cleared a little patch by the apple tree and planted some wildflower seeds. We watched anxiously over the summer, but nothing grew apart from a few toadflax in the autumn. This year - since the bush was removed - the patch has had hours more light and is now covered with ox-eye daisies, with toadflax and other flowers growing, but not yet open. It looks lovely and is full of flies, bees (not as many as in previous years) and other insects. And where there are lots of insects there are predators, like this crab spider, waiting for a fly to visit the daisy.
