The Sweet Smell of Winter

We had a grey day today. The light was depressingly flat from mid-morning. The early sun and clear sky in the east was history. So I had to content myself with finding some flowers to photograph in our garden. There are not many to be found at present.
The wintersweet is flowering close by the front fence. This shrub always intrigues me. The flowers are spaced sparsely on the branches and they are quite insignificant from a distance. But the glorious fragrance of the flowers certainly compensates for their lack of showy beauty.
