Sailing to Liberty

Our last day in town was hot and humid - perfect to get out on the water for a short ride to visit Lady Liberty and Ellis Island. We soon found ourselves amidst throngs of eager visitors from all around the world standing in line shoulder to shoulder to board the ferry, go through security checks, buy souvenirs, order chicken nuggets and hot dogs (how I wished we could've offered our international guests something better than that as "American cuisine").

Sitting in midtown traffic or circling a block for the tenth time looking for parking can make it difficult to remember just how beautiful New York City really is. But get yourself out on the water and you can look back on this classic skyline mixed with architectural styles old and new, the network of bridges that connect all the boroughs, the busy ferries shuttling passengers to and fro, and feel the rush of electric energy that makes New York the greatest city around!
