Farewell to the Outer Hebrides

A last look back at Lochmaddy - or Loch nam Madadh - as we sail away on the MV Hebrides at the end of our holiday on Berneray. I've never been clear about the geography of these islands, but now have a much better grasp of the system of causeways that link South Uist to North Uist, where Lochmaddy is the administrative centre, to Benbecula, to Berneray. I have to say that we were delighted that we'd chosen Berneray as our base for this short stay; it had a special atmosphere that we noticed the moment we drove off the causeway after a day on the Uists.

We stayed in an excellent B&B - anyone wanting a recommendation, give me a shout.

Incidentally, we arrived home exactly 12 hours after leaving said B&B. It's a long drive ...
