Wings

With a chiffchaff sweetly, 'chiff..chaff...chiff...chaffing' away behind me and a nightingale, 'chouk...chouking...' and singing in the opposite bushes, sitting by the pond with Tilly at Highnam Woods Nature Reserve just outside Gloucester this afternoon was lovely. Trying to shoot some pond life for a blip was a welcome break in an otherwise hectic day.

When the clouds broke and the sun beamed down the damsels suddenly came to life and so did this male Broad Bodied Chaser dragonfly. In fairness he didn't do much apart from sit on overhanging leaves and twigs in between doing a quick circuit of the pond. Nearly every time he faced the other way into the water which was a galling! Knowing from bitter experience how deep the mud was, even though I had wellies on, I had to stay put sitting amongst the brambles and nettles.

The RSPB really need to do some work here as it was very overgrown. They also need to open up the car park again to make it more accessible!
