Girl walking to fetch water in Lake Victoria

This girl was walking down to the lakeside at about 6pm with four little boys when we met her. It is nearly always the women, and therefore the girls from about 5 years old, who do the never-ending job of fetching water. She has the standard jerrycan and also a plastic watering can which was less usual - two holes for the water to spill out on the way back and not so easy to carry on your head.
Bryan and I were invited to visit the home of another boy we met nearby to see his pet monkey - a tiny scrap of a thing which was tied up next to the house, being fed maize and sugar cane by the kids. He said it escaped the day before but came back, so maybe it's not as bad a life as it looked to me.
