'Wool against Weapons', planning the film

I met Philip B. at the Black Books cafe in the centre of Stroud this afternoon, where we aimed to discuss plans to film the Wool against Weapons day at Aldermaston on the 9th August and events leading up to it. Jaine Rose, who I blipped last Thursday, was going to meet us and in fact we started the filming immediately. She had arranged for about nine people to come and record vox pops on her iPhone which will be used on the campaign's Facebook page, via Youtube, to encourage people to come to the demonstration and for Stroudies to buy the £10 tickets for the coach ride.

Philip set up Stroud Community TV several years ago, which provides a forum for anyone who has made films locally, and I'd offered to help with some filming, so I brought my video camera as well, which hadn't seen the light of day for far too long. I started filming some of the afternoon's events showing Jaine interviewing some kids, her friends and even strangers who wandered in. It was good fun but it always had the very serious purpose of raising public awareness of the nuclear weapons issue at the heart of
'Wool against Weapons'.

We will produce a film about the involvement of Stroud people with Jaine's campaign and tell the story of what happens. I will try to get other media people I know involved but it is surprisingly hard! Jaine has a wonderful ability to generate goodwill and action whilst ensuring everyone has fun on the way.

Have a good look at 'Wool against Weapons' on Facebook too to see its extensive reach. There are groups of people knitting away like mad in the most unusual places.
