Food Banks

I must confess to feeling very ambivalent to food banks. Whilst they are undoubtedly a godsend to growing numbers of people they serve as an indictment to the cuts to welfare that leave those people needing to turn to the food banks. Relying on charitable handouts can not be a very pleasant experience. At the same time allotments are under threat as councils look to realise any asset that they can.
Today was a full day at the allotment. Dug up the old strawberries and planted out 4 rows of leeks, sowed 2 more rows of carrots, pruned the gooseberries and of course did some weeding to keep the committee at bay. A hard day at the allotment inevitably means a busy evening with the produce. Tonight it is jam.
